What: Sacred Sites Tour with Rev. Jim Bear Jacobs and Rabbi Ricky Kamil
When: Sunday, August 25, 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Where: Various locations around the metro (transportation can be arranged, and maps and directions will be given to participants prior to the program).
Continuing our commitment to anti-racism and building on the work we are doing at Camp TEKO to honor the indigenous history of the land, we invite Temple Israel members to join in a special and important learning experience. The Sacred Sites Tour, led by Rev. Jim Bear Jacobs (Mohican), is an opportunity to learn about Minnesota history from a Native perspective through storytelling and experiencing the sites in silence, meditation, and reflection.
The Sacred Sites tour visits sites located around the confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers, what the Dakota refer to as Bdote, or “meeting place of rivers,” including Fort Snelling State Park, a Dakota Internment Camp following the Dakota-U.S. War and Pilot Knob Hill, a traditional burial ground.
As Jews, we know the power of hearing stories. Even when painful, they can provide an opportunity to grow together.
The registration fee is $36 per person.
