Join us for a rare behind-the-scenes tour of one of Summit
Avenue's most significant buildings: Mount Zion Temple. Founded in 1856, our
congregation constructed its fourth and current home at 1300 Summit Avenue in
1953-1954. It was designed by Erich Mendelsohn, a renowned modernist architect,
whose postwar synagogue designs reshaped sacred architecture in America.
In this first-of-its-kind session, we'll explore what makes this
building a landmark and then tour areas that are often unseen, but essential to
Mount Zion’s operation. The tour will include five priority projects of From
Strength to Strength, our current capital campaign. The morning will end
with a special preview of the most visible component of our vision for Mount
Zion's next chapter: the first public look at renderings for renovation and
repurposing of the Harris Chapel.
The
goal of this event is to deepen participants’ understanding of our landmark building
and ongoing efforts to restore and renew it. Space is limited.
